I remember months ago when Philip from Red State Gay emailed me asking me what I thought about Fred Thompson. He was pretty excited about him.
At first; I admit, I was skeptical. But I’m now thrilled that this great American is officially running!
I forget, who was the last great Republican/Actor to run for President?
*****Updated*****
Correction: He’s “officially” teasing us – not YET officially running.

I am glad also. I have been waiting and I think that he has the best chance. The Republican Party is waiting for a true social and fiscal conservative. They like Rudy, but in the long run, the man from New York and 9/11 fame does not have the social conservatism that a majority of the Republican Party is wanting.
Fred Thompson will be a candidate that will be welcomed to the race in July!
I agree. Fred Thompson seems to carry a pretty patrotic track record. I’ve been reading up on him all day.
I’m pretty jazzed up over it. As I said, Philip from redstategay.com first mentioned him but until lately I didn’t take it seriously.
Now people will be encouraged to read into him and get a glimpse at his sense of humor and what makes him an American. His poll numbers are going to shoot up I predict.
Told ya so. I think the rest of them are Reagan wannabes. I think FT is the most Reaganesque of the bunch…..and not just because he is an actor. He maybe the only chance we have to unite all the wings of the conservative movement behind a single presidential candidate.
Yes, every see his views on immigration. Here is a video:
Make sure you turn up the sound to hear his view
Philip!
Ya u were right. I’ve always told people you were the one with the brains out here in the blogosphere.
Okay, my prediction is Fred will select Condoleezza Rice as his vice-president! What does everyone else think?
Okay I’m probably wrong – but I can dream, right!
I agree, but I think it is a long shot mostly because Rice is too much associated with Bush.
Thompson’s view on immigration is strikenly different than the administrations.
Condi’s a longshot and none of the second tier 2008 candidates seem poised for a VP slot.
I’m looking at a governor right now. Someone like Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty would be perfect. Charlie Crist in Florida has become a superstar, but he was just elected.
The GOP establishment will likely try to push for a member of the Senate or maybe the House. But given Fred’s desire to put some separation between his candidacy and the unpopular institution that he left, I don’t think he’ll look there if he is nominated.
For now, we just need to focus on getting Fred the GOP nod in 2008.
