Another Go-Gos Moment……

I have been really indulging in YouTube lately and all it offers for classic videos.  I’m a big music fan and I was scanning through various 80′s songs/videos.

I came upon this fun video by the Go-Gos and glanced through the comments on it.  This is absolutely the most beautiful comment I have heard in SUCH  a long time:

“Here it was, the height of the Cold War in Reagan’s America and we still had positive, well-crafted pop music that could make you smile.”

Is that not beautiful!?  “Reagan’s America” and good music.  Could it get any better?

  1. Shawmut,

    Thannks, Steve.
That was just the form of hope I needed today.

  2. Devil Dog,

You are correct. I have always believed that the music of the times usually depicts the turmoil or greatness of our country at the time.

The music of the 80′s was hopeful, based mostly on the fact that the 70′s were horrible.

Reagan brought optimism back to the country. That is undeniable.

  3. T J,

Yes, the clothes were better and so was the music. The politics had a prettier shine to it but it was corrupt just as it is now.

However, our future is not located in the past.

Colonialism is quaint when portrayed in high school Thanksgiving plays but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t hideous. The neo-colonialism of the Bush administration is immoral, disgraceful, murderous– and it came with ugly clothes and stupid music! Maybe you’re right, there is a parallel?

  4. Steve,

Well, when Bush was in office, the Go-Gos did attempt a comeback. But then Al Franken started writing books.

The politics not matter how inaccurate your description had nothing to do with it. It had to do with the fact that Americans supported their President in war time. Reagan changed the world by ignoring liberals in Congress.

The only “politics” going on are the Democrats in Congress then and the Democrats in Congress now.
