I nearly fell out of my seat when I read this one. The Iranians are predictably upset by a US proposal to sell $20 billion worth of weaponry to Saudi Arabia. I have my own qualms and concerns about that as well. But the official reaction coming out of Tehran concerning the matter is what nearly made me choke on my Big Mac.
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman on Monday criticized a U.S. plan to sell state-of-the-art weapons to Saudi Arabia, saying it would undermine security in the Middle East, the state broadcasting company reported.
Mohammad Ali Hosseini’s comments followed reports last week that the U.S. planned to sell Saudi Arabia an estimated $20 billion of sophisticated weaponry, including advanced air systems that would greatly enhance the striking ability of Saudi warplanes.
“What the Persian Gulf region needs is stability and security,” Hosseini was quoted as saying on the Web site of the state broadcasting company. “Americans have been trying to disturb it by selling weapons to the region.”
What the bloody HELL??? Iran is complaining that we threaten to undermine regional stability??? They are upset about us selling weapons to other nations??? This the pinnacle of all gall and absurdity.
The Iranians give the s*** away. They pour tens of millions of dollars into supporting avowed terrorist organizations (at the expense of their people) and coordinate attacks with their twisted minions on Americans in the Middle East, Israel and other pro-western Arab nations. If I need to explain this hypocrisy anymore, then just close the window and read another blog.
The truth is – they are worried about the US selling weapons to a nation (Saudi Arabia) that has taken a stand (albeit quiet) against the regime in Tehran. Saudi Arabia is a nation that has openly expressed concerns about Iranian plans in the region. And Saudis have leaked it to the media that they would be prepared to protect Sunni interests in Iraq if the US were to suddenly withdraw it forces – much the in the same manner as Shi’ite militias are merely a proxy for Iran.
I find it utterly hypocritical for Iran to make such ridiculous statements. Perhaps the US is trying to force the mullahs’ hand by announcing the weapons sale. Maybe they are intent on following through. Nevertheless, I cannot imagine a more absurd reaction coming out of the mouths of Iranian officials.
If you have any doubt about the sanity of the people we are dealing with out of Tehran, let this serve as clue #1. Here’s your sign, folks!

Iran complaining!? Never….
Particularily when it comes to U.S. involvement in protecting ourselves and other allies from them.
I wonder what Ron Paul will say…LMAO
What should be taken seriously about Iran is the failure of so many people not to take the threat seriously. Few people see the depth of threat.
Of course sometimes they do things that would raise Gilbert and Sullivan to high drama;
Mindful that Iran is what we might call a “police” or “counterintelligence” state, Islamic Republic News Agency reported this week, that ‘police had, ahem, “arrested” 14 squirrels on charges of espionage.’
Silly, isn’t it. Squirrels don’t like pistachios.
And we wonder why the Iranians want nukes….look what Bush is planning on doing! Arming the enemy of our enemy of our enemy. Sick.

I’m not sure what Ron Paul would say. I tend to have faith that he would be a little more sensible than his supporters in earlier threads have made him to out be – Or more sensible than his remarks regarding 9/11 in the debate made him out to be.
If we are to believe earlier comments made on this site, then we are responsible for everything bad happening in regards to Iran today. We committed the major sin of propping up the Shah (although Carter got rid of him later). Therefore, we owe it to the poor Iranians to sit back and allow them to develop nukes, fund and arm terrorists who kill Americans and our allies, and allow them to wipe Israel off the map.
To do otherwise would be irrational and unfair to the Iranian people who “overwhelmingly” support the mullahs (If you believe that, you better go do some research). After all, the Iranian people really wanted this murderous theocracy, right?

I won’t argue with you about the wisdom of arming the Saudis. I’m not sure that I am a big fan of that. My major point here is that the Iranians are hypocrits for decrying the thought of us giving arms to someone else. I think that is anything needs to be done about Iran, we should not rely on selling weapons to the Saudis in order to ensure that. We need to handle it ourselves.
The big risk is history repeating itself in Saudi Arabia as it did in Iran, when the Shah was overthrown. Our ‘advisors’ should be part of any arms deal – like a service contract. The Soviets did this quite effectively in the Cold War. GPS Tracking devices on certain equipment would not be an extreme either.
All any revolution needs is the acquiessence or support of the middle class. In the Saudi case what might be referred to as ‘middle class’ is the same indolent element that are fed into the extremes of Islam. The irony is the influence of the Wahabis upon the Saud and the degree they of influence they have on the extremists.
This has to be resolved as well.
He’s right of course, “What the Persian Gulf region needs is stability and security,” Hosseini was quoted as saying on the Web site of the state broadcasting company.”
So why don’t they get busy at it; let the re-constuction continue in Iraq, tighten their borders, neutraize contraband stop shanghaing sailor in neutral waters ; and retrun to freedom the visiting families from the USA. And keep clear of Israel.
