Moonbats Vs. Loons

I guess since we’re on the topic of radical leftist idiots, I might as well bring this one into the picture.  It appears that some left-wing nuts are unhappy with MoveOn.org.  I never thought I would see the day.  You want to believe that the left can’t get any nuttier - then you hear about this.

MoveOn’s sin is supporting the Dems in Congress in their attempts to find a more “moderate” way out of Iraq.  The article from The Hill notes -

Some activist groups say MoveOn is giving a pass to Democratic leaders, whom they say are not taking a hard enough line to stop funding U.S. involvement in the war.

But MoveOn argues that burning bridges with Democrats is not an effective strategy. Much better, the influential organization says, is to work with them to peel away Republican support for the war and thus force President Bush’s hand.

Well, it never hurts to dream.  I’m not sure that this has any implication about the demise of MoveOn, but it certainly underscores one point – the Democrats in Congress understand that extremist measures to undermine our troops don’t play well in the public arena.  And MoveOn has indeed become more pragmatic if it feels that it must follow the Democrats in this understanding.  But what is amazing is the reaction from other extremist groups.

Leslie Angeline, an activist with Code Pink who staged a 24-day hunger strike in the office of Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) to protest his position on Iran, said she dropped her membership from MoveOn after it supported that measure.

“MoveOn is very conservative,” Angeline said. “When they said, ‘We should support the supplemental,’ they betrayed us.”

Oh wow.  But MoveOn must protect its own.  I always chide the Democrats for taking marching orders from MoveOn, but maybe the Dems in Congress have finally co-opted that particular group of nuts.  Still, MoveOn regards the Dems in Congress very maternally -

Matzzie [ Washington Director for MoveOn.org] said Democrats should be rewarded for the increasingly hard line they have taken against Republicans and the White House.

“When children do something bad, you can’t always be angry,” Matzzie said. “You want them to build confidence and feel bold, and feel like they have people behind them. And we want Democratic leaders to feel like they have people behind them that if they push, they’re going to be rewarded.”

Oh God.  How much more patronizing can you get?  This whole thing is sick and twisted, but it’s fun watching extremists battling it out.  I can guarantee you that there are so many confused Democrats on Capitol Hill right now (oh sorry, they ran home for recess after they gave Bush wiretap authority).

It’s just amusing.  A guilty pleasure I guess.

  1. daredevil92103,

i think it’s nuts. the dems were all for impeaching him, then, congress gives him more power than he asked for. and they call me moonbat :)

  2. Excellent writing as usual!

First of all, what the hell is a “moderate” way to leave Iraq? Sounds to me like the Moveon.org nuts even know themselves that extreme ideas (like full pullouts) would be disastrous which sort of refutes all the phony polls they keep citing.

This isn’t a surprise to me. Hillary is appealing to Kos; who dissed Cindy Sheehan; who qualifies as a Code Pink Crazy, who wants to run against Nancy Pelosi and on any given week not one of them produce thought that is parallel with the others.

They’re eating their own, but one thing they all seem to agree on is that they hate Republicans and George Bush.

We can expect more of this flip-flopping and back-stabbing until the nominees are elected.

  3. daredevil92103,

i picture liberals as being people with like crystals around their necks, communicating with aliens or something. but i picture neocons as being like nazi’s. it’s like the whole political arena is some strange B rated horror flick.
liberal communist aliens trying to take over nazi america or something. it’s strange. :)

  4. Shawmut,

Good Point DD. You’ve just written the beginning of a Sci-Non-Fi tome. Let’s be Moon-Bats (the original kind), blown into this orbit and try to make sense of what we see. Well, you got most of it. On the other hand pick up Carroll’s “Alice In Wonderland” (not fooling) and try to get through it without an appreciation for history’s mischief value and irony.
It’s in the terms that we get lost; enforced liberalism leads to fascism; realized conservatism finds us with greater personal responsibility. In whom do you/we wish to entrust responsibility for you/us; (careful; it’s not in whom do you/we wish to entrust your/our reponsibility{ies})?

  5. Shawmut,

That slap-dash conclusion of the session was price-less; fascist theatre mocking democracy. Immigration Reform was a farce (a crime actually). They basically gave their ‘Big Brother” fears an exorcism.
Now they’ve gone home to hear where their people want to be led.
Now, in the interim, a shrewd administration might just implement some pretty radical policies. Considering that few Republican Presidential candidates will identify with the President, he might just as well go whole ho… mustang!

  6. “MoveOn is very conservative,” Angeline said. “When they said, ‘We should support the supplemental,’ they betrayed us.”
What planet is she living on? Because nothing about MOVE ON is conservative.

“When children do something bad, you can’t always be angry,” Matzzie said. “You want them to build confidence and feel bold, and feel like they have people behind them. And we want Democratic leaders to feel like they have people behind them that if they push, they’re going to be rewarded.”

YOU want kids to feel bold after hey do something wrong? I can’t get past these two statements.

Maybe it’s because I’m still stuck on the stupid report on the TODAY show (which for some reason continually gets turned on first thing int he AM at my house- ugh) in which some crazy woman was trying to blame marketing for fast food, McDonalds to be precise was trying to blame them.

Take some responsibility for your own actions people. Ok.

I’m going to go re-read now, and maybe I’ll be able to get past the above two comments.

  7. daredevil92103,

i think that i think i wish to be responsible for me. but at the same time, if you fall, i will help you up. does that make any sense? and yup, i think now is when bush will make the most of what has been given, and congress is…. i dont even know. i guess i can say:
i don’t like bush, but i can’t even imagine what would happen if a democrat was president right now. i think it would be bad. very bad. maybe even worse than that.

  8. Shawmut,

DD, You’re a man to watch. You’re very candid reflections are quite refreshing, indeed.
GW is currently in the press room and doesn’t seem to have a shield up. He seems fairly comfortable in taking what’s thrown at him.
(Actually, as long as Congress is in recess, I’m a bit more at ease also.)
Understandably, he’s not to your liking, but as you suggest, whatever alternative the future offers us, I’d feel better with a Republican. (Well, maybe not with Romney).

  9. daredevil92103,

i really still feel like there wont be another elction, but if there is, i’m not who is best. ron paul sounds pretty good, if he really means what he says.

  10. daredevil92103,

and thank you shawmut for the compliment :)

  11. Shawmut,

Maybe we should look at other organizations that claim or have claimed to be liberal, possess political consciences, progressive, and who are proletarian oriented that share the same rigidity as “Move On”.
Now, allow me to suggest that we need not be selective in terms of partisanship, but we might look at the geneses of famous dictatorships(German National Socialists, Italy Fascists, The Commintern, The Church {during certain erae in history}, The Mafia, The Muslim Brotherhood, etc.).
