Donna Brazile, of Dem campaign fame, offers an explanation as to why the DNC suspended Florida’s Dem delegates in light of the state’s efforts to move their primary up in the sequence.
In the end, the DNC chose Nevada and South Carolina to bring further regional, racial and economic diversity to the “pre-window” primary period. Florida’s plan to move its primary forward represented a unilateral move that would completely disrupt the system on which everyone had agreed. The rules and bylaws committee had no choice but to enforce the rules. Our recommendation is not the end of the line for Florida. Indeed, the state has 30 days to bring its plan into compliance.
The RNC hasn’t said much about the rush to be first, but it all seems rather selfish. Brazile talks about the “Delaware Plan” which would mean regional, rotating primaries. This seems like a rational solution to me. The push to be first under the current system is asinine. Brazile points to one example of this absurdity -
Just look at what one governor said recently regarding her state moving its primary forward in 2008. “Holding an early presidential preference election attracts more presidential candidates, staff and media to Arizona,” said Gov. Janet Napolitano, “increasing Arizona‘s sales tax revenues and promoting Arizona’s hotels, restaurants and businesses.” At least she was honest.
It’s just ridiculous. The primary race and politics in general has become a nutty affair. I’m all about a good race and election day, but this rush by states to be “the first” has become stupid. I think both national parties can agree that something needs to be done. Hopefully, they will embrace a plan that espouses good sense and fairness for all states. Otherwise, the circus will become even more absurd.

What’s funny about Democrat Janet Napolitano is that she fly’s directly in the face of the DNC.
What Dem worries about capitalism? Most are trying to destroy capitalism.
But Devil Dog, look again, “increasing Arizona’s sales tax revenues” is what she sees as commerce. True, but if that’s her only rationalization, what does she say about the quality of the votes she gets.

I agree with you SHAWMUT, she does look at taxes as revenues, but I think she is very misguided.
