Quitting On A Fluke —

quit.jpg

Usually when most people quit smoking, it’s an event.  They mark their calendars, stock up on cigarettes and have themselves one hell of a smoke-out.

I smoked my last cigaratte about three hours ago.  I ran out and went to pick some up and realized when I got to my neighborhood convenience store that I forgot my wallet.  I grabbed the first pair of jeans on the way out and luckily those jeans had about 2.50 in change in them.

Of course, cigarettes are about 4.50 per pack here in the Will County, so I would have had to clean the change out of my car (about $50 worth, NO KIDDING) - or – drive back home to get my wallet.  I stood for a second – pondered what to do – and decided that with my birthday coming up Tuesday, that it was time to quit.

I was a pack-a-day smoker here for about 2 years, and before had smoked at least 1/2 pack a day since my early twenties (with the exception of a year where I stopped).

I took my 2.50 and bought a shitload of gum though.

I’m tired of spending the money, tired of driving back and forth to the store, tired of smelling up my car, tired period.

So, wish me luck!  I quit smoking!!!!!!!!!!!

Zip It, Hugo!

I loved this.  The Ibero-American summit of Spanish-speaking nations went off WITH a hitch.  As could be expected, the demagogic asshole dictator of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, was running his mouth again.  This time, he went too far for one nation.

The king of Spain told Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to “shut up” Saturday during a heated exchange at a summit of leaders from Latin America, Spain and Portugal.

Chavez, who called President Bush the “devil” on the floor of the United Nations last year, triggered the exchange by repeatedly referring to former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar as a “fascist.”

Aznar, a conservative who was an ally of Bush as prime minister, “is a fascist,” Chavez said in a speech at the Ibero-American summit in Santiago, Chile. “Fascists are not human. A snake is more human.”

Spain’s current socialist prime minister, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, responded during his own allotted time by urging Chavez to be more diplomatic in his words and respect other leaders despite political differences.

“Former President Aznar was democratically elected by the Spanish people and was a legitimate representative of the Spanish people,” he said, eliciting applause from the gathered heads of state.

Spain’s king, Juan Carlos, was not amused at Hugo’s assault on his nation’s former democratically-elected prime minister.  The video above is in Spanish, but you get the idea.

Hugo needs to keep his BS to himself.  His attempts to demonize leaders who embrace democracy and interfere in other nations affairs is getting old.  I was glad to see Zapatero intervene and rebuke Chavez even though I consider Zapatero to be pretty much worthless.

Things aren’t looking good for prospects on getting rid of Hugo, but I’ll continue to hold out hope.  It was just fun to see him “slapped down” by somebody like the King of Spain.  I don’t hold out any hopes that Hugo will learn from this though.  Fancy him deciding who is a “human.”  In my view, he doesn’t qualify.
