Day August 29, 2008

Hot Damn!

Ok.  I’m done.  Out of seclusion now.  I’m going to follow up on Mel.  Wow…..what a pick by John McCain.  I could have thought of a couple of others besides Sarah Palin (including my Kay Bay), but WOW!  She is a little soft when it comes to experience (so is Obama), but what a great choice.

I’m nervous about how she will fare in the debate versus Biden, but Sarah is a solid, fantastic person who will energize conservatives.  I have followed her for a while.  And I am impressed.  The leftist pundits are out on the attack now, but I feel good about this one.  She is pro-life, pro-gun and she doesn’t mess around.  She is solid as they come based on my research.

Go John!  I’m a happy boy right now.

PS:  I’m back folks!

Change We Can REALLY Believe In

The news has just broken that John McCain has chosen Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his VP pick.  Can I get a holla-holla?

I’m so happy right now I could just dance (which is saying a lot, since both a) I don’t dance, and b) I’m sick as a damn dog at the moment).  Palin was the first female governor of Alaska, and she’s made her presence known in very short order.  She’s best known for stopping the pork-barrel “bridge to nowhere” project, which would have built a bridge bigger than the Golden Gate and Brooklyn bridges from Ketchikan International Airport to tiny Gravina Island–cutting across a major maritime thoroughfare.  She has passed major ethics reform bills, and in a bold, un-GOP-like move used the power of her veto to strike down a bill that would have stopped giving benefits to gay employees of the state and their partners.

Palin is also a member of the National Rifle Association (woot!), has a downs syndrome child, and another who is a soldier in the US Army (hooah!).  So to all you “Farenheit 9/11″ followers…listen up, our politicians DO have the guts to allow their kids to fight.  Her husband is part Eskimo and has won the Tesoro Iron Dog (the biggest snowmobile race in the world) four times.

What’s best is that she defies her critics to hold her accountable.  When threats came down the wire about a legislative investigation into claims that she tried to have her sister’s ex-husband fired from his job as a state trooper, she willingly handed over all of the information that was needed and told the critics who jumped up and down with glee to have at her–she had nothing to hide.  She continues to do what no politician will, and has brought Republicans and Democrats together in her quest to hold the oil companies in Alaska accountable.  She’s actually found a way to tax those companies without passing the charge on to consumers, and Alaska’s finances are doing incredibly well.

What’s absolutely galling to me is that Senator Chuck Schumer actually said that her “lack of experience makes the thought of her assuming the Presidency troubling.”  Yep.  I wonder if Barack Obama’s much younger and even less experienced appointment is troubling to him.  As Michelle Malkin would say, “Gaffe-tastic!”
