How’s this for communication? I used this a few posts back, but I want to re-iterate these facts regarding Sarah Palin and the gay community:
Here’s a fact why Sarah Palin will make a great PRESIDENT (not VICE) because the other three don’t come close to the intrinsic and fair quality she offers.
1.) In 1998 Alaskans (just like California did in 2000, just like Oregonians did in 2004) voted overwhelmingly against gay marriage…it was put on a ballot and Alaskans voted against it.
2.) In 2005, the Alaskan Supreme Court ruled in a court case that Domestic partners of State Employees were entitled to benefits and that plan was to be implemented in 2006.
3.) The Alaskan State Senate passed a new bill to “override” the Court ruling and they used the 1998 vote described in item (1.) as their backing for it…therefore; gay partners of state employees WOULD NOT get benefits in 2006 like the court said.
4.) There was just one problem – once the bill hit the Governor’s desk, the Governor VETOED IT saying it would be “unconstitutional” to override a court ruling regardless of opinion. So the gay partners got the benefits. THAT GOVERNOR WAS SARAH PALIN!
5.) And this is the interesting part – Palin did allow the issue to be put to a vote stating it would be “the only way” she would support the bill overriding the court ruling. Guess what happened? The people voted in SUPPORT of Palin’s veto. This basically stated the people felt much differently in 2006 than they did in 1998.
Liberals and fellows gays, I beg of you….let’s use some objectivity here.
Could it be that because Sarah Palin acted LIKE A LEADER instead of someone using her power to throw out any personal opinion she may have had that perhaps her leadership and respect for the Constitution inspired and “communicated” to the people of Alaska?
This, liberals, is what we call “progress.” Simply calling yourself a “progressive” and slurping the gay community up one side and down the other to win the primary, only to turn on them in the general election when they start pretending to be Christians to win votes of the religious, does not do it.
Every mainstream liberal since 2000 has denounced gay marriage. Not one liberal politician exuded the LEADERSHIP required to do what Sarah Palin did.
I’ve always said gay marriage was a “people” issue and not a “party” issue. We need Palin to exude the quality of respect and fairness as she has in the past and leave this country’s service with as high of an approval rating as she attained in her own state.
Stop the stupid smear! Give the lady a chance.
