Is this Obama’s idea of a sick joke? Even if she does not get the position, the idea that she is “among the candidates” being considered for the job gives us a pretty good perception of where the Obama camp is heading in terms of insanity.
Let’s take a look at the last few Secretaries of State:
Madeleine Albright: daughter of Josef Korbel, Founding Dean of the Graduate School of International Studies. Albright herself studied at the same school. Under the Carter Administration, she served as an official responsible for the formulation of foreign policy legislation. She went on to serve at the Smithsonian Institution for effective political changes in Poland. Served as a Senior Fellow in Soviet and Eastern European Affairs at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. She worked for the United Nations, the list goes on and on, and even though she moved on through life with a bit of a “moonbat” mentality, one could hardly argue her qualifications.
Colin Powell: A Lieutenant Colonel who served in South Korea, assisted in the 1983 invasion of Grenada and the airstike on Libya in 1986, served as Reagan’s National Security Advisor, and went on to serve as the 12th chairman on the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Department of Defense. Not a bad choice.
Condoleezza Rice: Studies International Studies (actually under Albright’s father), received her PhD in Political Science from the Graduate School of International Studies, served as the Soviet Expert to Brent Scowcroft (National Security Advisor during G.H.W. Bush’s tenure), served as an international affairs fellow of the Council on Foreign Relations in 1986 where she was assistant to Director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. She then served as the Senior Director of Soviet and East European Affairs in the National Security Council. Rice then served as National Security Advisor from 2001-2005 and finally earning her well-deserved title as Secretary of State in 2005. Not a bad choice.
Can someone out there please tell me, what the hell is Obama thinking? Hillary Clinton has no experience whatsoever in International Studies in the depth required to seriously assume this position. I will concede that she is an accomplished woman in many areas of the law (not to mention a humble one who’s suffered the lessons of humility more than a few times) and can debate her way through domestic social issues regarding domestic tax and health care policy.
Could it be that Obama is simply stripping a Senator away from a very safe Democratic state? Or is this his way of saying “I’m sorry!” for stealing the primary?
This is serious; something that all of our lives are depending upon. I will leave Phil to analyze this further, but knowing how interested Phil is in international relations, I’m scared his head’s going to pop off when he finds out.

Are you kidding? My head just popped off!
See? Look, there it goes!
This keeps getting worse and worse with every passing day…
yes, it does.
I thought Obama did not need a Secretary of State. Anyone can walk into Baghdad, Terhran, Pyongyang and Khartoum and wave a white flag of surrender.
We can test the nominee by having this person go to Mexico City and wave the white flag. This person call tell the Mexican President, “You are free to continue colonizing America. Go for it!!!”
A Cabinet of Change, not Experience. Is that the blind leading the blind?
I’ve got to think about this a little more, but my first thought was “it could be worse.” I tell everyone I know that I’d rather have Hillary for President than Obama. And I can think of a lot of left-wing peaceknicks that he could put into the roles of State and Defense.
At first glance, she is more hawkish than Obama on foreign policy, but as an employee of the Obama administration she would be required to toe their line if she wanted to keep her job. Could she influence Obama to be more pragmatic in foreign policy matters? I’m not sure.
Yeah, it blows my mind to think of Secretary Clinton traveling the world speaking on behalf of our nation. I’m anxious to see what other names pop up. We’ll have to see where this goes.
I have a feeling that this won’t happen for 2 reasons: 1) The blood between Obama and Hillary is so bad, I can’t even imagine him making her part of his administration, and 2) She isn’t going to be rooting for Obama. She wants another shot in 2012, and if Obama fails like I think he will, she’ll want to be ready to swoop in when he does.
I could be wrong though.
Could she influence Obama to be more pragmatic in foreign policy matters? I’m not sure.
I’m going to vote NO on that one. I don’t think anyone can really influence Obama. I think he thinks he’s got all the answers and everyone else should just get on the train and do as he says.
He’s never once shown a desire to mend any fences or build any bridges before now, so why start?
You’ve got me there afw. To quote Monty Python’s John Cleese in “The Cheese Shop” skit – “It was an act of purest optimism to pose the question in the first place.”
All those decisions and all of the strategy/rhetoric will come from the top. But I will posit that it won’t be from Obama. As much as libs like to accuse Cheney of running the Bush administration, Obama is merely a puppet. Whatever his leftist, pseduo-intellectual masters decide will be the policy that we will see. And these bozos won’t allow for any dissent. That’s another reason I can’t see Hillary in this role. She won’t play their games.
Well, the article does state that John Kerry and Bill Richardson and Chuck Hagel are contenders as well.
However; not sure if you guys caught it or not, by she had a top-secret meeting with Obama today here in my homeland of Chicago.
I think Hillary might try to make a run for 2012, but Barky will have to make one hell of a spectacular bumble for that to be successful. He’ll have to outstrip Carter by miles. While I’d rather have Hillary, too, I’m hoping against hope that it doesn’t come to that. I’d really rather Palin and Jindal swoop in to save the day.
I love me some Bobby Jindal right now.
Steve – I’m really thinking Richardson. He’ll tow the line and give us more jokes with Iran, Syria, Venezuela, etc. like he and Albright did with North Korea. Come to think of it, Richardson would fit in perfectly at State with Barack Hussein Obama.
Not sure what the top secret meeting was about, but I will bet you a dinner and margaritas at Fresco’s Mexican Restaurant here in Fort Worth (Watauga actually) that Hill isn’t gonna be in the Hussein Obama administration.
