Day January 7, 2009

Tsalmaveth

The Jews have lived in the shadow of death (tsalmaveth) with neighbors such as Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and Fatah infiltrating Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon. Now I’m going to give you a modern timeline of terror attacks against Israel and the Jews, beginning in 2001.

10/21/2001: Four Israeli women are gunned down at a bus stop in Hadera. The two gunmen are Palestinian police associated with Islamic Jihad.

12/1/2001: 11 people are killed and 188 people are wounded in a suicide bombing at the Ben-Yehuda mall in Jerusalem. Hamas claims responsibility.

12/2/2001: 15 people are killed and 40 people are wounded in a suicide bombing on an Egged bus in Haifa. Hamas claims responsibility; Hezbollah expresses praise and support.

12/12/2001: 10 people are killed and 30 people are wounded by Palestinian gunmen of unknown faction on a Dan bus in Emmanuel.

3/2/2002: 10 people are killed and 50 people are wounded in a suicide bombing outside a bar mitzvah in the Beit Yisrael neighborhood in Jerusalem. The bomber blows himself up among a group of women with babies in strollers waiting for their husbands to exit the synagogue; of the ten killed, six are children. The Fatah Al-Aqsaa Martyrs Brigades claims responsibility.

3/9/2002: 11 people are killed and 54 people are wounded in a suicide bombing at a popular cafe in the Rehavia neighborhood of Jerusalem. Hamas claims responsibility.

3/27/2002: 22 people are killed and 140 people are wounded in a suicide bombing during a Passover Seder (Jewish religious service usually coinciding with the Christian celebration of Easter) at the Park Hotel in Netanya. Hamas claims responsibility.

4/10/2002: 10 people are killed and 17 are wounded in a suicide bombing on an Egged bus between Kibbutz Yagur and Haifa. Hamas claims responsibility.

5/8/2002: 15 people are killed and 58 people are wounded when a suicide bomber blows up a suitcase in a billiards club in Tel Aviv. Fatah Al-Aqsaa Martyrs Brigades claim responsibility.

5/27/2002: a baby girl and grandmother are killed and 40 people are wounded in a suicide bombing in an ice cream parlor in Petah Tikvah. Fatah Al-Aqsaa Martyrs Brigades claim responsibility.

6/5/2002: 16 people are killed and 38 people are wounded when a suicide bomber rams a car packed with explosives into a bus near the Megiddo junction. Islamic Jihad claims responsibility.

6/18/2002: 19 people are killed and 70 people are wounded (mostly students) in a suicide bombing on a bus between Gilo and Jerusalem. Hamas claims responsibility.

11/15/2002: 12 people are killed and 15 people are wounded when gunmen open fire and toss grenades at a group of worshippers leaving Shabbat prayers at the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron. Islamic Jihad claims responsibility.

11/21/2002: 11 people are killed and 47 people are wounded in a suicide bombing on a bus carrying schoolchildren in the Kiryat Menahem neighborhood of Jerusalem. Hamas claims responsibility.

1/5/2003: 22 people are killed and 130 people are wounded in a double suicide bombing near the Old Central Bus Station in Tel Aviv. Islamic Jihad and Hamas both claim responsibility.

3/5/2003: 16 people are killed and 30 people are wounded in a suicide bombing on a bus en route to Haifa University. Hamas claims responsibility.

6/11/2003: 16 people are killed and 80 people are wounded when a suicide bomber disguised as an ultra-Orthodox Jew detonates his charge on a Jerusalem city bus. Hamas claims responsibility.

8/19/2003: 18 people are killed and 100 people are wounded in a suicide bombing on a Jerusalem city bus. Hamas and Islamic Jihad both claim responsibility.

10/4/2003: 20 people are killed and 60 people are wounded in a suicide bombing at the Maxim restaurant in Haifa. Islamic Jihad claims responsibility.

1/29/20004: 11 people are killed and 50 people are wounded in a suicide bombing on a bus in the Rehavia neighborhood in Jerusalem. Fatah Al-Aqsaa Martyr’s Brigades claim responsibility.

3/14/2004: 10 people are killed and 16 people are wounded in a suicide bombing near Ashdod Port. Hamas and Fatah claim responsibility.

5/2/2004: An Israeli woman, 8 months pregnant, and her four dauthers are shot dead while driving in traffic near the entrance to the Gush Katif settlement in Gaza. When the vehicle spins off the road, the two gunmen approach and riddle all of the victims’ bodies with bullets. Fatah and Islamic Jihad claim joint responsibility.

8/31/2004: 16 people are killed and 100 people are wounded in dual suicide bombings on two buses near Beersheba. One of the victims is only 3 years old. Hamas claims responsibility.

4/17/2006: 9 people are killed and 40 people are wounded in a suicide bombing outside the Falafel Rosh Ha’ir restaurant in Tel Aviv; the same restaurant had been similarly bombed on January 19 the same year. Hamas claims responsibility, calling the bombing “self defense” for “Israeli crimes committed against the Palestinian people.”

3/6/2008: 8 people are killed (including 7 teenagers) and 9 people are wounded when a gunman opens fire inside the Merkaz HaRav Yeshiva (a Jewish religious school) in Jerusalem. Hamas hails the non-affiliated Palestinian gunman as a hero.

This list of attacks on the Israeli people are just a few; they’re the worst of all of them. In between each attack were smaller attacks killing between 1 and 7 people and wounding hundreds. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 innocent Israelis, many of them women and children, have been deliberately targeted in attacks by Palestinian terrorists–many of them associated with Hamas. At least 4000 innocent people have been badly wounded in these attacks.

What’s my point? The Palestinians and their supporters all over the world are calling the current offensive “ethnic cleansing” on the part of the Israelis. They’re holding up the deaths of women and children in Gaza as proof that the Israelis are murderous beasts bent on the annihilation of the Palestinians. I will get into why this is an absolutely ludicrous argument in my final missive in this series, but in light of the litany of cruel, heartless attacks directed entirely at innocent women and children, the Palestinians have no room for whining.

Don’t make accusations of atrocities that you yourself are guilty of.
