Um… I’m not sure that “being subjected to a lobotomy that went horribly awry and permanently reduced her mental capacity to that of an 18-month-old baby” counts as “developmentally disabled.”

(Rosemary may have been mildly retarded from birth — or possibly she had some undiagnosed mental illness rather than a cognitive impairment. But she was nonetheless high-functioning enough that she could’ve gone out with young men and gotten herself embarrassingly knocked up, and thus her parents opted for the lobotomy — which was supposed to make her merely less willful.)

They were rather prolific lot. Seven of the nine children of Joe Sr. and Rose had children. Joe Jr. would have had children had he not died in WWII. Rosemary Kennedy was developmentally disabled. Having kids was not in her future.

RFK was rather prolific, 11 children in 17 years. When did he find time to be a politician?

JFK and Teddy stopped at 3 each.

Jean Kennedy is the last one of the children still living. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend is the oldest of the grandkids.

Sen. Kennedy’s death is the end of a dynasty. If not, then it is a pause. Patrick Kennedy is a Congressman from Rhode Island. Robert Shriver is a city councilman in Santa Monica. Kathleen Townsend was Lt. Gov. of Maryland. I am not sure if her political career is over.

O.K. no more fantasy life. I am too busy working hard, earning money, and paying taxes to don a brownshirt and break windows. Someone has to work and pay these taxes.
