Ostensibly, if you're arrested for a crime in the US and you're found to be here illegally, you're supposed to be turned over to ICE. It depends, though, on the city and its policies.

The mayor of San Francisco has bragged openly that they're a sanctuary city; it's a standing policy there that local police officers are never, under any circumstances, allowed to ask an offender's legal status. Only the state can ask, and that only happens if the state charges a criminal with major felonies. Houston PD has had a similar (though not as strict) policy, changing only when someone is charged with a felony. Even if a Houston officer asks a person's legal status, however, that doesn't mean they'll be turned over to ICE. At best they may be released on bail and reported, but often the accused is using a fake ID and can't be tracked.

The Democrat shamnesty bill currently being introduced has seven co-sponsors, including one Republican (Lindsay Graham) bag of total douche who's been supporting the National Council of La Raza for years. The general description is that illegals will be given a path to citizenship by passing a background check and paying a $500 fine.

I will, I promise, deliver that video blog I've been threatening to post on that subject this weekend.

"Illegals have caused multiple drunk-driving deaths over the past five years, and nearly every single one had been arrested multiple times for DUI before."

I thought if you are in the US illegally and you get arrested then you get turned over to the ICE for deportation.

Anyway, Obama is going for Immigration Reform next. Well, that is what the pundits are saying. But in 2010 I think he'd be foolish to risk it. But, I hope he does. The liberals are going to go for an Amnesty even though it won't be called that. But we all know it will be an Amnesty in every way but name only.

It is good, however there was still a very vocal push from the local religious leaders to stop her election. I don't know how much you know about Houston, but it is brimming with megachurches. There's one (I can't remember the name at the moment, one branch is around the corner from my family's ranch) that has five separate branches and the "pastor" chopper-hops between them on Sundays. My old church, Grace, now has two enormous campuses--each with full production studios, gyms, bowling alleys and all and Grace Community is pushing to raise money from other sources to erect giant crosses at every major freeway entrance to the city. If they'd sell those church campuses they'd have more than enough to build them.

That's aside from the fact that I don't know anything about her policies. Houston also has a very large illegal immigration population and major gang issues. Illegals have caused multiple drunk-driving deaths over the past five years, and nearly every single one had been arrested multiple times for DUI before.

Houston made a major turn. In the mid 1980's the city easily voted down a basic gay employment and housing rights ballot. It is good to see the city of Houston ignoring sexual orientation enough to elect an openly lesbian mayor.
