Ignoring Evil

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” -Edmund Burke

I’m not a huge fan of Kelly Clarkson, although I believe she has an incredibly powerful voice and is remarkably gifted. After all of the back-and-forth between myself and several Ron Paul supporters, though, I was surprised to see this on her Twitter feed, retweeted by someone I follow:

I love Ron Paul. I liked him a lot during the last republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he’s got my vote. Too bad he probably won’t.

Now I’m going to tell you what I believe to be the most insidious problem with Paul and those who support him. It’s not the racist and homophobic statements from his newsletters in the 1990′s (a ghostwriter made several comments in more than one of his newsletters that were outrageously racist and homophobic, and at the time Paul defended them – it wasn’t until 2008 that he denied them, and he has thus far refused to clarify the disparity between then and now). It’s not even his wishy-washy “sure, I’ll stand with the twoofers…oops, shouldn’t have done that!” two-step. It’s not even his belief that we shouldn’t have gone to war with either Iraq or Afghanistan, or his outrageous claim that 70% of the troops support him. All of those things get under my skin in a hurry, but the worst is unbelievable to me.

Ron Paul believes that we should never enact sanctions or refuse to trade with any nation. He believes we should open up all trade with all nations, including Iran, the Palestinians, and Cuba.

Think about that for just a moment. There are a number of things he has said in the past that I can agree with. I have no use for the UN. NAFTA was a spectacularly poor idea from the outset – I don’t think that even looked good on paper. We have far too many government programs and organizations that run afoul of the Constitution in every sense. I believe that abortion is wrong and the federal government needs to get its grubby fingers out of education. But when he starts talking about doing business with nations whose human rights records are unspeakably horrific, I can’t listen.

His reason – and that of his followers – is that people should be free to choose their own path. People should be allowed to make their own choices, and it’s not up to us to decide who is right and who is wrong. Okay…if that is your stance, then why do we have prisons? Why do we send people to jail for things like robbery, rape and murder? Why put them away and strip them of their civil liberties? Who are we to decide who is right and who is wrong?

Paul would openly do business with countries headed by despots who will blow nearly a cool million just on cognac while their people starve and go blind with diseases that are easily and inexpensively avoided in civilized nations. He would open up trade routes with dictators who order torture and imprisonment for political dissidents – including 8-year-old boys, as Saddam did when a young boy playing in his classroom accidentally knocked a picture of Saddam off of a wall. He would restart trade with depraved “leaders” who run their nations under Sharia and allow the beating, starvation, stoning, hanging and/or beheading of any person accused of engaging in homosexual relationships.

Paul and his believers seem to think that if we back off and play nice, the rest of the world will leave us alone. Not true. And if we actually believe that negotiating trade with countries that commit unbelievable crimes is going to persuade them to clean up their act, we are deluded at best. I don’t think we should be doing business with China, but we’re doing a hell of a lot of it and they even own billions of dollars in US debt (that’s a whole blog post in and of itself). That, to me, ranks right up there with giving the entire world a peek at our nuclear arsenal.

During the 1930′s, the Japanese attacked China during the second Sino-Japanese war. The Japanese had already forced China to give up Korea and Taiwan; how they wanted the mainland. During the second war, the Japanese committed atrocities that could not be ignored. While the Japanese bombed Chongqing and raped Nanking, other nations refused to give aid to China because they felt the Chinese were going to lose and they didn’t want to piss off the Japanese. America, however, did give aid to China, and we refused to trade with Japan – parituclarly for oil, which Japan started to run out of quite rapidly. That was why Japan bombed us at Pearl Harbor. It was a classic, “I’m going to assault you until you give me what I want” sort of action.

If a mugger hits you and pulls a knife or a gun, most people today would simply give him what he wants to make him go away and tell the police later. What they don’t know is that when you do that, it’s unlikely that the mugger will be caught. It’s almost guaranteed that they will keep doing it until someone finally does fight back and they go to jail. In the same way, if we hadn’t fought back against Japan, they would have kept killing us until we did give them what they were after. Also during WWII, Hitler signed a treaty with the Soviet Union – but years later, once Hitler had taken over nearly the whole of mainland Europe and he had enough power to do it, he turned on his ally and tried to take over Russia.

You cannot try to appease a monster and hope that he won’t come after you when he gets hungry again. It always backfires. THAT is what I believe is the most frightening aspect of Paul’s political beliefs. If we ignore the evil acts of others, we might as well be complicit in them.

When Your Favorite Sports Team Sux…..

Those folks who have been here since Steve and I joined up know that I really love foreign affairs.  And any of you who have been reading us since then also know that I consistently chastise everyone for not giving a damn about foreign stuff.  My posts to the effect are basically ignored except for occasional polite comments. But you have to throw me a bone here. This is crazy stuff.

North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Il is a certifiable nut.  If he was captured and brought to trial here in the US, he would be sentenced to life in prison without parole if not death.  But his lawyers might plead the “insanity defense.”  And, by God, I – as a supporter of tough sentencing and capital punishment – would totally agree.  The man is a total whack-job. This sums it up.

North Korea’s football team has been shamed in a six-hour public inquisition and the team’s coach has been accused of “betraying” the reclusive leader’s heir apparent following their failure at the World Cup, according to reports.

The entire squad was forced onto a stage at the People’s Palace of Culture and subjected to criticism from Pak Myong-chol, the sports minister, as 400 government officials, students and journalists watched.

The players were subjected to a “grand debate” on July 2 because they failed in their “ideological struggle” to succeed in South Africa, Radio Free Asia and South Korean media reported

The team’s coach, Kim Jong-hun, was reportedly forced to become a builder and has been expelled from the Workers’ Party of Korea.

The coach was punished for “betraying” Kim Jong-un – one of Supreme Leader Kim Jong-il’s sons and heir apparent…..

However, media in South Korea said the players got off lightly by North Korean standards.

“In the past, North Korean athletes and coaches who performed badly were sent to prison camps,” a South Korean intelligence source told the Chosun Ilbo newspaper.

Incredible.  And these people have nukes.  It’s amazing.  A totally Homer Simpson kinda thing where you smack your own forehead and say “Doh!”  But we keep coddling these imbeciles.  Simply amazing.

North Korea Barks Again

I’m loving it.  The US and South Korea are going to do the war game thing in the East China Sea.  North Korea is screaming.

The North routinely threatens attacks whenever South Korea and the U.S. hold joint military drills, which Pyongyang sees as a rehearsal for an invasion. The U.S. keeps 28,500 troops in South Korea and another 50,000 in Japan, but says it has no intention of invading the North.

Still, the North’s latest rhetoric threatening “nuclear deterrence” and “sacred war” carries extra weight following the sinking of a South Korean warship that killed 46 sailors. Seoul and Washington say a North Korean torpedo was responsible for the March sinking of the Cheonan, considered the worst military attack on the South since the 1950-53 Korean War.

The American and South Korean defense chiefs announced earlier in the week they would stage the military drills to send a clear message to North Korea to stop its “aggressive” behavior

This could be a very serious turning point on the North Korea issue.  The US (surprisingly) added additional sanctions in response to the sinking of the South Korean warship.  Hillary actually went to the Korean demilitarized zone along with Defense Secretary Gates and made a show of force aimed at Kim Jong-Il.  Seems like the Obama administration is rattling some sabers to detract from their domestic woes.  Either that, or Hillary has gone rogue in order to boost her chances to unseat Obama in 2012.  Either way – I’m impressed.  North Korea is on the defensive.

I would be thrilled to see NK make a militaristic move.  That would invite excused retaliation.  Obama might even invite the attack on a fellow Marxist.

Hopefully, we’ll go ballistic on them and put them down.  North Korea is a major threat to worldwide peace.  They are suspected of aiding the dictatorship in Burma with a nascent nuclear program.  Throw in their aid to Iran and Syria.  These guys are no good.

If the world community had the balls to eliminate the North Korean regime, they would save themselves a lot of headaches in the future.

Israel’s Prerogative

According to Merriam Webster, the definition of prerogative is “an exclusive or special right, power, or privilege.”  When it comes to building settlements in “occupied” territory, Israel has that exclusive right.  They won the 7 Day War in 1967.  They own the territory.  No one has any right to dictate what the nation of Israel should do.  Nor should anyone encroach on their sovereignty.

The world believes that, because the Middle East is a fragile region, Israel should sacrifice her sovereignty, her rights and her identity in order to appease the wishes of the international community and their vision of peace.  The false thinking is that Israel’s acquiescence to international demands will placate the Arab/Persian nations.  Not so.  Those nations and people are bent on Israel’s destruction at any cost.  Any negotiation or talks are simply attempts by the Arab/Persian nations to buy time while they determine the best way to eradicate the Jewish nation.

So, when I see headlines like “Despite U.S. Rift, Israel OKs West Bank Building,” I recoil.  Israel doesn’t need US permission to build houses or apartments in the “occupied” territory.  Israel is not an occupier anymore than the US was an occupier in Iraq.  Israel, like the US, was a victor. They determine what happens with the territory.  Consequently, they are entitled to build as they wish.

By rebuffing U.S. pressure, Netanyahu has tried to cement the support of a coalition that is committed to strengthening Israel’s control over the West Bank.At the same time, he has offered to slow construction afterward in exchange for overtures from the Arab world. This has mollified the Americans or the Palestinians, who have demanded an immediate and total freeze.

“Given the choice between making peace and making settlements, they have chosen to make settlements,” chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said.

Unfortunately, George W Bush and his two predecessors lent credibility to this appeasement. They were helped by Israel’s Labor and Kadima administrations.  Now that Likud is in control, they are simply asserting the rights that they have.  I was estatic the day that Netanyahu gained power.

Prime Minister Netanyahu and his administration should resist Obama and the international community.  I used to believe in a Two-State solution, but I’m really starting to doubt that.  I watch Iran gain nukes, the Taliban and al-Qaeda gain power in Afghanistan/Pakistan and the continued radicalization of the Middle East – and I wonder how we can dictate our orders to the democratic nation of Israel.  The Israelis deserve our total, unconditional support .

Here’s some food for thought -

Dani Dayan, leader of the West Bank settlers’ council, said the government had approved only limited construction and accused it of caving in to American pressure.”North Korea is going on developing its nuclear capabilities, Iran is going on developing its nuclear capabilities, we have threats all over the world and all the world international community is interested with is whether my daughter builds her house next to mine,” he told foreign reporters. “It is all based on the erroneous perception that the creation of a Palestinian state is the magical solution to the situation here.”

Amen brother.

You Can Keep Her!

Former US Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) is an Israeli prison after she and other “activists” attempted to take a ship through an Israeli blockade of Gaza. Now she wants out.

“We were in international waters on a boat delivering humanitarian aid to people in Gaza when the Israeli Navy ships surrounded us and illegally threatened us, dismantled our navigation equipment, boarded and confiscated the ship,” she said in a statement, adding that they were immediately taken into custody.

“Immigration officials in Israel said they did not want to keep us, but we remain imprisoned,” she said.

Ok, fine.  She was taking dollies, chess sets, Robitussin and snacky cakes to the folks in Gaza.  The US has already promised nearly a billion dollars in aid to the terrorist Hamas regime that controlled Gaza.  Why did they need her stuff?

Given McKinney’s wild, conspiracy theory-fueled ideals and her undying love for the people who hate Israel, it might do her good to have a little “time out.”  Notice that Obama isn’t making any great effort to bail this crazy woman out of prison despite his public statements.

State Department and White House officials have not effected our release or taken a strong public stance to condemn the illegal actions of the Israeli Navy of enforcing a blockade of humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians of Gaza, a blockade that has been condemned by President Obama.”

McKinney is borderline….no she is full-fledged NUTS.  And she is anti-Semitic.  She is squarely associated with anti-semitic elements. After she lost her Georgia re-election campaign due to her kook statements and actions, her anti-Semite brothers stepped in.

Following McKinney’s concession speech, a reporter attempted to ask the Congresswoman why she thought she lost. The New Black Panther member interrupted, shouting, “Why do you think she lost? You wanna know what led to the loss? Israel. The Zionists. You. Put on your yarmulke and celebrate.”

”This incident is reminiscent of the 2002 campaign in which Rep. McKinney’s father “blamed the J-E-W-S” for her defeat,” said Ms. Rose. “Rep. McKinney did not distance herself from the anti-Semitic comments then, and her service in Congress has been clouded by a perception that she also harbors such feelings.”

So, maybe it’s time that Cynthia spent a little time in deep thought.  Obama won’t claim her.  She was defeated for re-election in a primary by another black Democrat.  She was too whacko for everyone in her own party.  That speaks volumes to her objectives and ideology.

At least, under Israeli detention, she will not be tortured or decapitated.

Knee-Slapper of the Week

Actually, I think this one outdoes MOST of the laughable plans announced by the Obama adminstration.

First, Obama promised more transparency in government. He promised change. Then he nominated tax cheat Tim Geithner to be Secretary of the Treasury. Then he nominated Kathleen Sibelius to be the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Then he nominated Ron Sims as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Then he raised taxes on the “top 5%” of the earners in America, bringing the highest tax bracket up to 39.6%.

Today, he’s far outdone himself. Put your drinks down…

He and Tim Geithner have just announced a plan to inject $210 billion into the economy by even more taxes on the corporations in America. How? By overturning one of Bill Clinton’s tax laws that gave a break to companies that made some profit on overseas offices–so long as the money made overseas was re-invested overseas and stayed there. The instant it was brought back to US banks it was subject to taxation.

They’re calling this a loophole, and they say they’ll recoup a lot of money by closing it. It’s supposed to create more jobs, ostensibly by not giving that tax break in any way, shape or form to any corporation–PERIOD. There’s just a few problems with this, not the least of which being that it’s hilarious to see Tim Geithner trying to enforce tax laws when he can’t even follow them.

The fact still remains that it’s still cheaper to hire a group of employees in Bangladesh than it is to hire the same number of people to do the same job in the United States. Making those corporations pay more taxes cannot and will not change that fact. The only way to really, truly encourage companies to keep jobs settled right here at home is to offer incentives–i.e. TAX CUTS FOR WHAT LIBERALS DEEM “THE WEALTHY”–to keep those jobs here. When they’re paying the same amount of taxes on both home and foreign offices, yet it costs twice as much to hire me to do a job as it does to hire Sanji Rosgothra in India (name completely fabricated), where do you think the companies are going to want to go?

I talked to a woman last week who complained that she’d called customer service only to be asked a round of questions she couldn’t understand because of the rep’s heavy Indian accent. In the same breath, this woman said, “boy, I’m so glad Bush isn’t in office anymore, Obama’s gonna fix this mess right up!” I had to hang up quickly because I couldn’t help the hysterical laughter that threatened to escape my throat. Sure, the mess started under Bush, but Obama has only made it worse. Now he’s suggesting that we dump even more taxes on corporations during a damned recession as some kind of twisted cure?

I’ll tell you how this will play out: if Obama gets his wish, and this so-called tax loophole is closed, several businesses will pull up stakes in the US completely and move everything to other countries–countries that are more tax-friendly. Still others will outsource even more jobs to make up for their new losses because of the fact that it’s cheaper to hire people overseas. And whether they stay or they go, prices on everything will go up in reactionary inflation because businesses refuse to eat any losses that they can avoid. That’s not just greed; it’s the free-market system at work.

If this is the start of Obama “spreading the wealth,” then I don’t want to know what the next step is.

Buddies At Last!!!

SUMMIT/AMERICAS

This picture just made my heart swell with pride.  President Obama took time out from his activities at the Summit of the Americas to make nice with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.  A handshake, a smile.  It was a Kodak moment that illustrates the true heart of our beloved leader.  I can’t tell you how proud I am that Hugo Chavez may soon be one of Obama’s “homies.”  It just brought tears to my eyes to see Obama extend the hand of friendship to the proud, principled Venezuelan leader.  Soon maybe, we too, can understand the truth and excitement of the Bolivian Revolution.  I can say that we are well on our way.

Oh Really: Obama and Iran

Well kids – it looks like it’s time for another game of “Oh Really?” (conservative-style).  The subject of this edition?  The illustrious Mr. Obama.

The messiah - having solved the economic crisis, lowered the sea levels, ended poverty, and achieved global harmony – decided to turn his focus to more leisurely endeavors.  Things like filling out his NCAA basketball bracket, making fun of the handicapped with Jay Leno on national television and making sweet videos for the Iranians.  This last one really blew my mind.

Get this line of bull.

President Barack Obama is reaching out to the Iranian people in a new video with Farsi subtitles, saying the U.S. is prepared to end years of strained relations if Tehran tones down its bellicose rhetoric….

“So in this season of new beginnings I would like to speak clearly to Iran’s leaders,” Obama said in the video. “We have serious differences that have grown over time. My administration is now committed to diplomacy that addresses the full range of issues before us, and to pursuing constructive ties among the United States, Iran and the international community….”

In his message Friday, Obama had a warning for Tehran: “This process will not be advanced by threats. We seek instead engagement that is honest and grounded in mutual respect.”

“You, too, have a choice. The United States wants the Islamic Republic of Iran to take its rightful place in the community of nations,” Obama said. “You have that right, but it comes with real responsibilities, and that place cannot be reached through terror or arms, but rather through peaceful actions that demonstrate the true greatness of the Iranian people and civilization.”

So, Mr. Obama – you think that 30 years of US policy aimed at Iran is wrong-headed and stubborn?  Ronald Reagan, George HW, George W and, yes, even Bubba were misguided in their attempts to punish Iran for their support (financial and military) of terrorist groups.  The Iranian calls for the destruction of Israel were just silly little words.  And Iran’s insistance on pursuing nuclear weapons is just a little misunderstanding.  After all they are just a “tiny country” that poses no threat, right?

OH REALLY?????

And so – Mr. Obama, Mr. President, Barry ole pal – you’re gonna undo 30 years of “misguided” US policy towards Iran by making a sweet, precious video.  You’re going to extend the hand of friendship to Iran’s theocratic thugs.  They just need to be not-so-mean – play nice, say nice things about others, and maybe smile a little more.  That’ll solve everything, eh?

OH REALLY????

Well, buddy.  Iran’s supreme dude, responded to your video message.  You know what he said?

Khamenei set the bar impossibly high — demanding an overhaul of U.S. foreign policy, including giving up “unconditional support” for Israel and halting claims that Iran is seeking nuclear arms. Iran insists its nuclear program is only for peaceful energy purposes.

“Have you released Iranian assets? Have you lifted oppressive sanctions? Have you given up mudslinging and making accusations against the great Iranian nation and its officials?” Khamenei said in a speech in the northeastern city of Mashhad. The crowd chanted “Death to America.”

“He (Obama) insulted the Islamic Republic of Iran from the first day. If you are right that change has come, where is that change? What is the sign of that change? Make it clear for us what has changed.”

Oh no.  Sounds like they aren’t gonna play nice, Mr. Obama.  Of course – it wasn’t all bad for you.

Still, Khamenei left the door open to better ties with America, saying “should you change, our behavior will change, too.”

Well, there you have it, Barry.  All we have to do is concede that the US has been wrong for 30 years and change our ways.  Just denounce Israel, back off the nuclear thing and turn a blind eye to Iranian support for Hamas and Hezbollah.  That shouldn’t be too hard for you.  You already have your folks kissing Syria’s rear-end, and you’re going to give the Palestinians nearly 1 billion of American taxpayer dollars (we don’t need that money anyway).  So, acquiescing to Iran’s demands just seems to follow the natural course of things.  Then all the radical Islamist guys over there will love us and stop killing us.  And we will all have you to thank, Mr. President.

Let’s take a break now.  The point of “Oh Really?” is to point out that someone has lost touch with any semblance of reality.  Obama has reached that point.  He has gone and humiliated the United States with this garbage, making us appear weak and, quite frankly, ignorant.  You want mutual respect from Iran, Barry.  Did you hear any respect from Khameni?  I sure as hell didn’t. This is unforgivable.

Mr. Obama – there have been many Euro-liberals before you who have tried this approach with Iran and their ilk.  They thought that we just weren’t open enough.  We just needed to try and be understanding, culturally-sensitive and open to dialogue.  Where the hell did that get any of them?  Iran’s behavior has not changed despite this kowtowing, ass-kissing type of message.  You think this will all change just because it came from you, Mr. Obama?  I realize that you might believe it will.  After all – you are the messiah.  And you are accustomed to the adulation and adoring crowds who take your every word as gospel.  Hope and change, dude. Hope and change.

Well, here’s a message for you.  You and the Ivy League nerds that comprise your administration are naive at best and dangerous at worst.  Your socialist/marxist professors indoctrinated you with worthless, failed economic theory.  They made you believe that a socialist, utopian economy and social structure could actually work despite the fact that it has failed over and over again.  Similarly, you guys were brainwashed by American-hating “educators” who railed against those damned neocons.  They taught you that you must be embarrased by your nation.  They threw around phrases like “social justice” and “hegemony” to emphasize the need for your guilt.

And, so, it leads you to do something as shameful and ridiculous as this.  The slap in the face that you received from Iran should be a lesson to you.  But I doubt you learn that lesson.  You and your kind are oblivious and blind.  There is no hope for you.  The only hope is that your presidency is short and that the damage you do can be undone by those who come after you.

Oh Really????

Despite the fact that Saturday Night Live tends to focus an overwhelming majority of their political potshots on Republicans, I still enjoy the show from time-to-time.  For those of you unfamiliar with SNL – The “Weekend Update” segment of the show occasionally features a series called “Oh Really?’ where the “anchors” choose a person(s) who has done something boneheaded without any thought of the ramifications of their actions.  The mocking of the bonehead in question is merciless and hilarious.

I couldn’t get this out of my head as I read this article posted on wcbstv.com

In a swift about face from her views as New York’s senator, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is now hammering Israel over its treatment of Palestinians in Gaza.

As First Lady, Clinton raised eyebrows when she kissed Suha Arafat.

Since she was then seeking a Senate seat the resulting brouhaha caused her to “re-think” her positions.

“I’m a very strong supporter of Israel,” Clinton said back in February 2000.

On Thursday, as Secretary of State she had yet another about face in the form of angry messages demanding Israel speed up aid to Gaza. Jewish leaders are furious.

And then comes this reaction to Hillary’s about-face -

“I am very surprised, frankly, at this statement from the United States government and from the secretary of state,” said Mortimer Zuckerman, publisher of the New York Daily News and member of the NYC Jewish Community Relations Council.

“I liked her a lot more as a senator from New York,” Assemblyman Dov Hikind, D-Brooklyn, said. “Now, I wonder as I used to wonder who the real Hillary Clinton is.”

OH REALLY?????

So you elect Democrats who are merely paying lip-service to American Jews with their “support” of Israel and then expect that these createns will hold true to their word?  You elect a guy who diminishes the Iranian threat and supports measures to stifle the war on terror, then expect he will stare down Hamas and support the state of Israel?

OH REALLY?????

I have frequently mentioned Mark Davis here before.  He is our local conservative talkshow host on WBAP 820 AM and is a sometimes-guest fill-in for Rush Limbaugh.  Mark has often wondered how American Jews have become such a reliable constituency for the Democrats.  He believes, as do I, that those Jewish voters have a “cavalier” attitude towards Israel.  In other words – these Jewish voters have decided that their domestic political interests outweigh any allegiance they may have towards the state of Israel and their heritage.  Davis believes that this is their right and their prerogative.  I agree with that.

But, when I hear of American Jews suddenly disenchanted with the anti-Israeli actions and rhetoric coming from the Democrats – I am dumbfounded to the point of hysterical laughter.  What planet must you be on to believe that the Democrats will ultimately stand behind Israel?  Their neophyte President aligned himself with anti-Semites and doesn’t have any record on anything of national significance – much less foreign policy.  Yet a big majority of Jewish voters took a gamble.  And now they will lose out -

Clinton’s decision to hammer Israel comes as the Clintons and President Barack Obama are planning to give the Palestinians $900 million toward the rebuilding of Gaza in the wake of the Israeli offensive that was sparked by Hamas rocket fire.

The majority of American Jews voted for him.  Now they’re stuck with him.  And let me add yet another apology to Steve regarding this election.  Steve was beside himself that Hillary would be the next Secretary of State.  I responded with hope that she would temper Obama’s foreign policy.  I was wrong.  Hillary Clinton is as morally bankrupt as the rest of her party.  She will toe the Obama line evidently. Democrats have historically shown a propensity to change positions as often as most people change their underwear.  And Hillary’s husband was the poster child for such maddening fickleness.

So yeah – “really.”  I doubt this will change any hearts amongst the Jewish Dems.  And I’m sure that the Democrats and Obama will temper rhetoric sufficiently to curb some of the criticism.  After all – they need the money and votes that come with the Jewish community in America.  Thank God Netanyahu’s rise to power coincided with this election.  The Israeli people will need his strength and courage to offset the damage that will be done by Obama’s policy towards Israel.  I truly believe providence is at work.

Bombay’s Lessons

I can already see the grimaces.  “Oh God – here goes Phil with another foreign policy post.”  Sorry, but I can assure you that this has implications for our own nation.  You see, Islamic terrorists in India have just killed over 150 people and injured more than 300 in Bombay, India (where did Mumbai come from?).  And we need to ask ourselves what all of this means to us.

The Wall Street Journal’s editorial staff got it right -

We will learn more in the coming days how terrorists invaded India’s financial capital Wednesday night, killing more than 100 innocents and wounding hundreds more. But there are already two lessons emerging: The war on terror is far from won, and it is migrating to democracies with weak antiterror defenses.

They’re right, you know?  Under Bush and Chertoff, terrorists realized that they couldn’t pull that stunt here.  Yell and scream about Gitmo or the Patriot Act all you want, but when was the last terror attack on the homeland?  I thought so.  Now shut up.

Even Europe started to wise up after the bombings in Madrid and London.  They still have massive problems – especially the UK.  And they are still screaming bloody murder over Gitmo and “strong-handed” US tactics in dealing with terrorists and terrorist threats.  Again, I say – “shut the f- up.”

So, al-Qaeda is moving to other nations that they feel are easily penetrated – India being one of those.  Don’t believe for a second that this is poor Muslim dudes concerned about the plight of Kashmir.  This is an orchestrated plot by Islamofascists to hit democracies in any way possible.  The fact that they targeted Westerners and Israelis in Bombay betrays their intentions.  The US, Europe and Israel have nothing to do with Kashmir.  Yet they were targeted.  Numerous Europeans, 2 Americans and 5 Israelis can be numbered among the dead.  And the places targeted by these thugs included a Jewish Center as well as hotels and restaurants frequented primarily by Westerners.

The WSJ editorial faulted India’s government for the attacks while chiding them for blaming Pakistan for the continuing terror problems that have plagued their nation.

A lack of political leadership is to blame. Yesterday Prime Minister Manmohan Singh promised that “every perpetrator would pay the price.” Yet his Congress Party has done little more than bicker with its coalition allies over the past five years on how best to fight terrorism, as Sadanand Dhume writes here. Or it has tried to deflect responsibility by blaming Pakistan. It may pay a price for its incompetence at the national polls next year.

I am not overly versed on Singh’s government although I suspect very strongly that the Congress Party has not committed enough resources to monitoring and fighting terror.  It’s hard to argue that point now given this and numerous bombings that preceded this event.  But I will say that India has every reason to blame Pakistan.

I once called ex-Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf “our (America’s) little despot.”  We were forced to deal with him as long as he kept radicals in check.  And then, when it became apparent that he was losing his grip, I was hopeful that Bhutto and her pro-Western allies would change things for the better in Pakistan.  Apparently I was overly optimistic.  The Pakistani military, overrun with terrorist sympathizers, has refused to deal with the lawless elements in Waziristan.  And the government, in a fragile coalition with Sharif’s Islamist-leaning lawmakers, has refused to push the military out of fear that they may lose power.  What the hell to do about Pakistan?

I can guarantee you that Pakistan is not only important to the War on Terror, I can tell you that Pakistan’s frontier bordering Afghanistan is most likely the root of half of the world’s terror and 2/3rds of India’s problem.  Yet nobody will do anything about it aside from the occasional US cross-border strike on high-profile targets.  Why?  Because Pakistan is toting nukes, and everyone is too concerned about their “sovereignty.”  Screw that.  People are dying.

So what does Bombay mean to us here in the West?  It means that al-Qaeda is gearing up again.  They are trying to rebuild their infrastructure and support via bloody demonstrations of force such as that seen in Bombay.  They are likely funneling millions through this farce involving the Somali pirates (my own conspiracy theory).  al-Qaeda is on the rise, and they are ready to hit here again.

This attack may well give us the 4th installment of a war between India and Pakistan.  If so, it will be frightening given the fact that both countries are nuke-ready.  This might be the last major foreign test of the Bush administration and/or the first major test of the Obama administration (it still hurts to say that).

So, what have we Americans done to deal with these types of threats?  We elected a terrorist-comforter as President who, in turn, names an utterly unqualified and inexperienced Arizona governor to secure us against these threats.  Janet Napolitano will be in over her head and has no, NO experience in dealing with this type of threat.  I hope Barry Hussein Obama reconsiders.

In the meantime, we can only hope for the best and pray that this “chicken doesn’t come home to roost” (as a famous religious figure once claimed).  Terrorists got a boost with Obama’s election.  If we think they will confine themselves to India and Somalia, we are sadly mistaken.  And this event only underscores the threat we face.  Fear is a good tactic sometimes and usually a great motivator.  You should all be afraid – very, very afraid.
